10 Teams participated which included 5 Overseas Teams from Kerala, New Delhi and Australia. and 5 Teams from Sri Lanka.
The teams were split into 4 groups and each Team was assured of a minimum of 3 Teams at the Event.
The NCC grounds was dressed up for the occasion with colourful margues and plenty of music and lots of banter and networking too. A welcome dinner was hosted by Travelon at the Sawasdee Restaurant on the Mount Lavia Beach on the 18th and every overseas guest had a fun filled evening with a sing a long accompanied by a 3 peice band in attendance. The evening saw all the teams mingle and share experiences of their cricket tours around the world.The evening wound up with plenty being tipsy and singing to their hearts content.
The serious business was witnessed on the 19th..when the teams were categorized into the Cup, Bowl and Plate categories...and the competition was close and intense.
In the Cup Final HNB Veterans got the better of the Old Peterites in the Final while Niz Sports and Cricket Gurukul piped out the Lanka Cavaliers in the Bowl Final.The Plate Final was a absorbing tussle with the Kerala Masters edging out Hornsby from Sydney Australia.
Saman Jayantha carried away the award for the Best Batsman and Man of the Event.....
A special surprise greeted all the Teams when a Ten Sports Team took on a Colombo Sixes Team in a exhibition match prior to the Final of the Cup Competition.The Ten Sports Team won the match comfortably.
The Oveseas Teams were housed at the beautiful and World famous Mount Lavinia Hotel and all arrangements from Airport pickup to Airport drop and transfers to the Grounds and functions were carried out by Travelon Sri Lanka.
The success of this Inaugural Event has led to all the Teams asking for more..and more and the 2nd Colombo Sixes will be held in august of 2012....So for all those teams that missed out..well you gotta be there in 2012..and experience a wonderful event which was well organized and conducted.....which pleased all the participating Teams....
See you in 2012....early booking are advised as the next edition will certainly have lots more teams participating...and the first 24 teams only will be accepted to participate..
